William Hinrichs Jenkins, 82, of Lynchburg, died Sunday December 5 at home after a prolonged illness. He was a son of the late Rev. Stanleigh Edward Jenkins and Mary Agnes Brown Jenkins. He was also preceded by a brother, Stanleigh Edward Jenkins Jr., MD.  He is survived by his wife, Aline Cleveland Bowles Jenkins, his daughters Sarah Jernigan Jenkins Alsobrooks (Brad), Lydia Hinrichs Jenkins Gardner (Steve), their mother Molly Roper Jenkins. three granddaughters Clara Jernigan Alsobrooks, Virginia Burge Alsobrooks, and Emerson Sage Gardner, and a grandson Jacob Hinrichs Gardner. Also surviving is his brother-in-law, William. L. Bowles (Tanis).  Mr. Jenkins held a BS from The University of The South (Sewanee), a Masters in Science Teaching from the National Science Foundation, and an associate degree in Theology from the Christian Life School of Theology. After a tour in the US Navy, he taught in the Norfolk (Va.) public schools and then at Virginia Episcopal School (Lynchburg) for more than 20 years.  In Norfolk, he was an active member of Norfolk Savoyards and continued to sing in Gilbert & Sullivan productions at the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center. He was a member of The Order of St. Luke and Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church.  A memorial service will be held at 1:00 on Monday December 13 at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Rivermont Avenue.  The family requests that memorials be sent to Virginia Episcopal School, Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, or The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. Arrangements by Burch-Messier Funeral Home, Bedford, 540-586-7360.
