Jesse William Tilford Amos, 51, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020. He was born in Bedford County on October 10, 1969 a son of the late Jesse Gordon Amos and Effie Overstreet Amos. He is survived by his son, Spencer Amos; daughters, Autumn Amos, Chasity Amos, Haley Amos; grandchildren, Makenna Amos, Dalilah Amos; sisters, Melissa Arney, Ange Amos; cousin, Willie Lynch and wife, Laurie; numerous nieces, nephews, and other cousins. Eugene Scott Stinnett, 50, of Huddleston, died Monday, November 23, 2020. He was born in Lynchburg, VA on April 24, 1970 a son James Edward Stinnett and Linda McNabb Stinnett. In addition to his parents he is survived by two brothers, James Edward Stinnett, Jr. and Dave Randolph Stinnett. No services will be held. Robert Lee Wright, Jr., 86, of Bedford, VA passed away Monday, November 23, 2020 at his residence after a long illness. He was born in Amherst, Va. November 25, 1933 a son of the late Robert Lee Wright, Sr, and Dorothy Tyree Wright. In addition to his parents Robert was preceded in death by his wife Rachel Worley Wright. Robert was a veteran who served in the Korean war. He worked as a T.V. repairman and at Centra Maintenance for many years. He is survived by three children, Wanda Thompson (Joe),Terese Wright (Ben), and Robert Lee Wright III; six grandchildren, Scott Thompson (Ashley), Jonathan Thompson (Hannah), Brent, Cheyenne, Heather, Dallas Wright; one Great-grandchild Emmaleigh Thompson; good friend, Harman Davis, and special hospice nurses, Terri Smith, Rhonda. A celebration of life for Robert will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, November 29,2020 at Temple Baptist Church in Madison Heights with Pastor Joe Thompson officiating. Lisa Mae Sines, 53, of Bedford died Sunday, November 22, 2020. She was born in Bedford, on April 14, 1967, a daughter of the late James Edward Sines, Sr. and Annie Spence Overstreet. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Sines; and brothers, James Sines, Jr. and Jerry Sines. She is survived by her daughter, Desiree Sines; granddaughter, Destini Sines; sisters, Ann Hamilton and husband Billy, Tina Conway and husband Billy, Anna Hoffman, Shelby Overstreet; brothers, Curtis Sines, Douglas Hoffman and wife Heather; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, with David Carter officiating. Doris Logwood Burley, 90, of Big Island, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Accordius of Lynchburg. She was born in Covington on January 16, 1930 to the late James Garrett Logwood and Sadie Hudson Logwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Earl Andrew Burley. Also preceding her in death were two brothers and one sister, Raymond Garrett Logwood of Staunton, James Justice Logwood of Lynchburg, and Vivian Logwood Hughes of Richmond. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Pearl Logwood of Lynchburg and Marion Williams of Clifton Forge; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Gail and Kenneth Goff and John Robert Rusher. Doris was a member of Big Island Methodist Church where she served as pianist for many years. Singing and playing various instruments such as the banjo and harmonica was an enjoyment to her. She loved to cook and have family and friends in her home. An avid gardener and homemaker, Doris had a long and active participation in the Hunting Creek chapter of the Homemakers Club. Although she had no children of her own, she was a “mother” and “grandmother” to numerous nieces, nephews, and others from the community and from her church as evidenced by the many cards, letters, and visits received by her over the years. The family of Doris and Earl are especially grateful to Gail Goff for the years of help as a good neighbor in addition to providing the help that would normally be provided by a daughter or son. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Big Island Cemetery with Rev. Larry Ross officiating. Joseph Tandy Jones, 78, of Thaxton, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born in Thaxton, on February 23, 1942, a son of the late Clem P. Jones and Johnsie Ada Bowyer Jones. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clem Jones, Jr., Clifton (Buster) Jones; sisters, Naomi (Bink) Johnson, Pauline Blankenship, Ruby Doxzen, and Katie Hammock. Joe loved spending time with his grandkids, farming, gardening, being outdoors, cutting wood, watching wrestling and NASCAR. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed. Joseph is survived by his wife, Linda Hamilton Jones; daughters, Lynette Hudson and husband, Michael, Jennifer Miller and husband, Jason; grandchildren, Jolee and Jenna Miller; sister, Marie Wright; sister-in-law, Jeanette Turpin Jones; special nephews, Eddie Blankenship, Cecil Blankenship, Jr.; his special cats, Tiger and Missy; and nieces, nephews, and friends. William Tilghman “Bill” Sampson, age 89, of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. He was born on January 30, 1931, in Normal, Illinois, son of the late Hildred H. Sampson and Glen R. Sampson. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Sampson, Ruth Bright and her husband Merle, and Pat Sampson. After serving two years with the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War, Bill attended Roanoke College as an English Major. He worked as a broadcast writer for WSLS Radio and Television, as an all-media copywriter for several Virginia-based advertising agencies, and as a weekly column writer, titled Nature’s Way, which appeared in a number of Virginia newspapers, including The Salem Times-Register. He also published several articles in magazines, such as Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine and Sunshine Magazine. Bill served for a time as vice president of the Valley Writers Chapter of the Virginia Writers Club and The Police Writers Club. Bill’s favorite topic to write about was nature, hoping to share with readers his own sense of wonder at “…the perfection, the precision, the ineffable beauty of the natural world and the way it is put together.” Bill was also an avid Amateur Radio Operator. He loved God, his family and friends, all of God’s creatures and his country. Bill is survived by his son William Leon “Jay” Sampson and his wife Traci; his daughter, Lala J. Chappelle; his grandchildren, Fallon B. Wright and her husband Craig; Sawyer J. Chappelle and his wife, Kristina; Tyler J. Sampson; his great grandson, Douglas W. Wright; and his dear friends Amy Restivo; Nancy Spilberg. Military graveside honors will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2020 in Fairview Cemetery. William Edison Andrews, 72, of Bedford, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020. He was born in Bedford on January 15, 1948 a son of the late Edison and Ethel Andrews. William loved Football, Baseball and especially Racing. Dorothy Mae Richards, 89, of Montvale, VA went to her heavenly home Tuesday, November 17, 2020. She was born July 20, 1931, daughter of the late, Jack Edward Jeffries and Clara Belcher Jeffries. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Lowell Richards; sons-in-law, Terry Driver and David Harrison; brothers, Jackie, James, Johnny and Robert Jeffries; sister, Mildred Bordwine. Dorothy retired from ITT after 19 years service. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Michael T. Richards, Roger L. Richards and wife, Bonnie, Jeffrey L. Richards and wife, Debra; daughters, Rickie S. Driver and Darlene Harrison; sister, Peggy Cox; fourteen grandchildren and Twenty Five great-grandchildren; and Numerous nieces, nephews, and other family. Ret. TSGT James Winfred Scarrow,76, of Blue Ridge, VA died Monday, November 16, 2020. He was born January 4, 1944 in Sarnia, Ontario Canada, a son of the late Clyde Scarrow and Olive Woods Scarrow. In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by his niece Brenda Hillis. In 1963 Jim crossed the Canada/US border to join the United States Air Force. Stationed in Texas, California, Kansas, Michigan, Virginia, Philippines, Maine, with two tours to Alaska, he retired there in 1983. Jim then worked for the Alaska Army Guard for 12 years. For 30 years Jim and Connie worked Alaska bazaars selling personalized ornaments. Jim loved talking to people at the craft shows. Jim is survived by his wife of 46 years, Connie Caniff Scarrow; Sister, Joan St. Marie; Brother, Jerry Scarrow; nieces; Nancy McRae, Janet Forsyth, and Lisa Turner; nephews; Brian, and Michael St.Marie; and numerous other family and Friends. He is also survived by his loyal cats Valley (who stayed by his side), Lily and Oreo. Sincere heartfelt thanks to the Amedisys Hospice staff who have lovingly cared for Jim over the past 11 months. As per Jim’s wishes he will not have a service but will be remembered at a later date in a memorial service at Shady Grove Baptist Church.
