Peggy Ann Key Overstreet, 85, of Hardy, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 25, 2019. She was born in Bedford, VA on December 26, 1933 a daughter of the late Bernard “Bennie” Key and Estelle Brown Key. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Lois K. Gray.

Peggy worked in administration at Lewis-Gale Hospital and she loved her fur-babies, Kesha and Lulu.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Altizer; granddaughter, Allyson Cincioni and husband, Jacob; grandson, Ryan Altizer; great-grandsons, Nolan and Luke Cincioni; sister, Nancy Thomlinson; brother-in-law, Fred Gray; son-in-law, Ronnie Altizer; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., on Monday, July 29, 2019 at Halesford Baptist Church, 2485 Lost Mountain Rd., Wirtz, VA 24184.

James Howard “Jim” Smith, 83, of Rustburg, died Monday, July 22, 2019. He was born in Wakenva, VA on April 12, 1936 a son of the late Vernon R. Smith and Mary Ann Hammond Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Bonds Smith. Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy Williams Rusk Smith; children, Dr. James R. Smith (Tammy), Becky Wescoat  (Allen); step-children, Karla White (John), Joy Andrews (Kenny), Christopher Rusk (Christine); grandchildren, Michael Smith, Chelsea Beach (Jeremy), Nathan Wescoat (Lindsey), Katelyn, Aaron, and Rachel Wescoat, Bethany House (Daniel), Kristin Kabatov (Vlad), C.J. , Noelle, Cody, Coulton, Grace, and Charles Rusk, Elizabeth Andrews; great-grandchildren, Owen and Ava Grace Wescoat, Lincoln and Colton House, Alek and Ark Kabatov; sister, Judy Conti (Wayne); and many precious nieces and nephews. Rosemary Borck Goodwin of Smith Mountain Lake, VA, died peacefully in her sleep on July 22, 2019.  She was at home, surrounded by her family and her caregivers.  She was a beautiful, kind 96-year-old woman, devoted to her family, friends and faith. Rosemary moved to Smith Mountain Lake in 2010.  She enjoyed music, singing, dancing and being with people.  She especially loved going out to lunch every day and thanks to her companions, Norma Jean and Leroy, Tommy, Marilyn, Linda and Virginia, she was able to do just that.  You may have seen Rosemary around town in a pink outfit, always with a hat. Rosemary was born in Michigan, the eldest of three children.  As a lifelong learner, she went to junior college in Minnesota before moving to Alaska where she met her future husband, Ralph Goodwin, an Air Force officer.  She loved being an Air Force wife and meeting new people.  They settled in Annandale, VA where she completed her bachelor’s degree in sociology from George Mason University.  She later earned her master’s in education from Virginia Tech.  Rosemary and Ralph spent 55 wonderful years together and were active members of Annandale United Methodist Church. Rosemary is survived by two daughters, Nancy Goodwin Griffin (Tim) of Annandale, VA and Barbara Ann Boatwright (Rick) of Huddleston, VA; her beloved grandson, Daniel Clark Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, Robert, and her sister, Ruth. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, August 12, 2019, at Trinity Ecumenical Parish, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, VA 24121.  The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Ecumenical Parish with the note “Door of Hope” which is a girl’s school in Tanzania supported in part by Trinity.    

 

Ted Lewis Goff, 65, of Big Island, VA passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019. He was born on August 25, 1953 in Bedford County, a son of the late Owen Silas Goff and Ruth Goff Robertson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Winfred Goff, Dalmase Goff, Guy Goff, Tommy Goff, and sister, Patsy Weatherford. Ted is survived by his brother, Lawrence Goff (Edna); sisters, Elsie Andrews, Jeannette Goff, Patricia Pederson (Arvid); sister-in-law’s, Janie Goff, Virginia Goff; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Hunting Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Bledsoe officiating. A burial will follow in the church cemetery. Frances Marie Orange, 89, of Bedford, died Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at her residence.  She was born in Bedford on December 22, 1929, a daughter of the late Jasper Orange and Audrey Carter Orange.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd W. Orange, Sr.; and her daughter, Dianne Nester.  She is survived by a brother, Russell Orange; two sisters, Lois Dye and Betty Reno; four children, Junior Orange, Jerry Orange and his girlfriend, Charlotte Stevens, Darrell Orange and Tina Abbott and husband, Eddie; her grandchildren, Chris Orange, Kimberly Nester, Kayla Marie Abbott and Josh Orange; two great-grandchildren.  A funeral service will be held 12:00 noon on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, with Rev. Scott Wayne Hickman, 55, of Bedford, died Monday, July 1, 2019 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Washington, PA on August 26, 1963 a son of Teresa Sacco Love and husband, Henry Love and the late, Paul Wayne Hickman.  In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Kim Dugan Hickman; his son, Trevor Hickman; his aunt, Judy Sacco.  The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 pm Friday, July 5, 2019 at Bedrock Community Church, 402 E. Betty Zane Dooley Miller, 87, of Bedford died Monday July 1, 2019 She was born in Bedford, VA March 2, 1932 a daughter of the late Noah Bernice Dooley and Beth Hawkins Dooley. Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lewis Miller, Jr.. Betty retired from Rubatex and was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. Betty is survived by one sister Ruby D. Key and husband, Bernard C.; Niece: Brenda Parker who Betty considered her daughter; and numerous other family and friends. A Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday July 3, 2019 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel with Pastor Greg Rogers officiating.
