
Sarah Hawkins Hewlett, 91, of Lynchburg, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026. She was born in Lynchburg on October 12, 1934, a daughter of the late Archibald H. Hawkins, Sr. and Irene Berkley Hawkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph James “Jim” Hewlett, Jr., a daughter, Joy M. Canada Faust; father of her children, Pete H Canada; her siblings, Mae Gregory, Archibald H. Hawkins, Jr., Helen Olson, Willliam Thomas Hawkins and Robert E. Hawkins.
Sarah worked as a CNA for many years at Virginia Baptist Hospital and was so kind, gracious and giving to all. She loved cooking and trips to Top Sail Island. As years went on, she just wanted “to be quiet and good”. She was a long- time member of Boonesboro United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her sons, David H. Canada (Debbie) and Kevin B. Canada; son in law, Tom Faust; grandchildren, Jeremy H. Canada (Linda), Brittney Canada; great grandsons, Jasper Canada, Hunter Silby; great granddaughters, Riley Payne, Abby Canada; Nephews and nieces, Archibald Hawkins, III (Sandi), Sheffey Gregory, II (Julia), Garnett McDonald, Bob Olson (Laura), great-nephews and nieces, Brian Hawkins, Maxine Ezell (Bob), Sheffey Gregory, III (Vanessa), Kyle McDonald, Stephanie Smith (Brandon), Eric Olson and Ryan Olson; great-great nieces and nephews, Lilly Ezell and Charlotte Ezell, McKinna Gregory, Lillian, Bella and Josiah Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 23, 2026 inside the Mausoleum Chapel at Fort Hill Memorial Park, 5196 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg with Pastor Jeongseung Lee officiating. Please consider a donation to Boonesboro United Methodist Church.
