Meda Alica Hicks (81) passed away July 1, 2025 in Greensboro, NC surrounded by family. Alica was born in Bedford, VA on December 28, 1943 to the late Thomas and Meda (Goode) Hicks.
Alica grew up in and around Bedford, a proud Otter graduate of Bedford High School. She attended Ferrum College, but left to start her family. Ultimately, Alica moved her Tribe to Randleman, NC and worked more than 35 years for State Farm Insurance until her retirement in 2023.
While her six children are her most creative output, Alica was also a talented artist who loved to draw, cross-stitch, and create beautiful calligraphy.
In addition to her parents, Alica was preceded in death by her sisters, Sue Kennedy and Linnette Healy, son-in-law, Gaylon (Gator) King, and grandson Garrett Aman. Her memory lives on in her children: Stephanie King, Rebecca Tanner, Patricia Aman (Chris), Paul Tanner (April), David Tanner (Alyssa), and Jacob Tanner. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will hold visitation at Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, Bedford on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 1:00 to 2:30. and a funeral service beginning at 2:30. A private burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National D-Day Memorial or AuthoraCare Hospice.
