Carol Lee Wennerstrom Thompson, 76, of Lynchburg, went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, June 23, 2024 after a battle with gastro cancer. She was the wife of her high school sweet heart, George Erle Thompson, Jr. for 52 years when she lost him in August of 2019. They had one beautiful daughter, Dawn Renee Thompson Williamson (H.L. Williamson); one grandson, Travis Gordon Driskill (Kayla Brown); four great-grandchildren, Hunter Mason Driskill, Landyn James Brown, Carter Lee Driskill, Raelynn Maree Driskill; and sister, Brenda Jean Brayshaw. Born to parents, Howard L. Wennerstrom, Jr. and Carolyn Brooks Wennerstrom on January 21, 1948 who lived in Milford, CT at the time and moved to Lynchburg, VA where she called home. A graduate of E.C. Glass High School, she chose to support her husband and traveled with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Carol had a diverse career which ultimately led her to own Thompson Merchant Systems where she helped merchants with their credit card needs. Carol’s heart, Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she grew in knowledge of the Lord through worship, bibles study, serving, and belonging to many committees to help the church grow. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Brett Eubank officiating.
