Deborah Burton Maupin, 78, of Forest, VA, passed away peacefully and woke up in the arms of her Savior on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Born May 28, 1946, in Clifton Forge, VA, she was the daughter of the late Vera Lucille Jamerson Burton and Abrie Lee Burton, and the granddaughter of the late Edward and Florence Jamerson and the late Robert and Zora Burton. Many places were called home as her father was a manager at Leggett’s Department Store, a company that transferred him frequently. While living in Clifton Forge, Debbie attended Clifton Forge Baptist Church, and there she met her best friend, Marti. They remained lifetime friends. Debbie spent most of her teenage years in Waynesboro, VA. Debbie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Thomas “Tommy” Maupin; her son, Todd; her step-daughter, Tracy (Steve); her grandsons, Christian and Jeb; and her step-grandson, Seth. She is also survived by her sister, Vera (Ralph); her special niece and nephew, Sarah and Greg; and many cousins and friends. Debbie loved her family very much and would do anything for them and never asked for anything in return but love. Debbie had a heart to serve and loved helping others. If it was an addict needing a treatment facility, someone needing a place to live, a homebound person needing a friend, or a neighbor needing a home-cooked meal, she was always eager and willing to help. Debbie and Tommy were members of Thomas Road Baptist Church. It is their desire that anyone who does not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, to please ask Him into their heart and to find a good Bible believing and teaching church to attend. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Tree of Life Ministries, 2812 Greenview Drive, Lynchburg with Rev. Mike Dodson officiating. The service will be live streamed on their Facebook page. We, Debbie’s family, would like to thank Dr. Asthagiri and his team at UVA and Gentiva Hospice for their services and care for Debbie. Now a special request from Debbie: “To my three grandsons, who knew me best; with every diet coke and every Little Debbie cake, remember that Maw Maw loved you to the moon and back.” Arrangements by Burch-Messier Funeral Home, Bedford, 540-586-7360.

Charles Dewey Gunnoe, Sr., born on September 24, 1931, in Charleston, West Virginia, entered eternal life on May 11, 2025. After graduating from Charleston High School, he ran Gunnoe’s Grocery with his father before serving with distinction in the medical corps of the U.S. Air Force in the early 1950s. He joined his brother Raymond at Gunnoe’s Sausage before opening his own branch of the Gunnoe’s Sausage Company in Goode, Virginia in 1965. The company’s sausage recipe made it a favorite at breakfast tables throughout the region. Dewey loved the business, especially his long-standing partnership with grocery stores, the opportunity to work alongside his daughter and son, and the relationships he built with many dedicated employees who became like family. Although the family sold the company in 2022, the Gunnoe’s brand remains in production. Dewey’s tireless work ethic also impacted the lives of many in his community. He was a founding member of Brookhill Wesleyan Church. He took joy in his involvement with the local Ruritan chapter—serving pancakes, stirring Brunswick stew, and lending a hand wherever needed. Over the years, he participated in numerous mission construction projects and never hesitated to get behind the wheel of a tractor trailer to deliver disaster relief supplies to people in need. He was a loyal supporter of the Bellevue Recreation Center, the Jefferson Forest Band Boosters, and many community groups.  Dewey was a passionate sports fan who loved the Virginia Cavaliers, avidly followed the careers of athletes from both Virginia and West Virginia, and always enjoyed catching a major league game on the road. Above all, he loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. He seemed to have at least nine lives and made the most of everyone. The family is especially grateful for the loving care provided in his final years by Diane, Krystal, Peggy, and Sharon. Dewey was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delores Fern Taylor Gunnoe; his parents, James Earl and Louisa (Donnally); and his siblings, James (Jimmy), Raymond (Red), Edith (Tommy) Robertson, Jean Henderson, and Harry. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Gunnoe (Jim Messier); his sons, Chad (Marji) and Craig (Marti); and his grandchildren: James Gunnoe, Mariel Messier, Arianna Messier, Erik Gunnoe, Thomas Messier, Katya Gunnoe, Chloe Gunnoe, and Taylor Gunnoe. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Brookhill Wesleyan Church, 1043 Cifax Rd. Forest, VA 24551 Visitation will be Friday May 16, from 6-8 pm at Main St. United Methodist Church,212 E. February 3, 1953 – May 9, 2025

On May 9, 2025, William Robert Miller rode on up to heaven. Bill was born on February 3, 1953, to the late William Ralph Miller and Doris May Yohe in Medford, NJ. A born-again Christian, Bill valued his relationship with God, his family and friends, and had a passion for restoring classic cars. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Wade; his stepfather, Frank Yohe; his stepbrother, Frank; his first wife, Kathrine; and his beloved fiancée, Grace. His legacy will live on through the four daughters he cherished: Heather Meacher (née French), Julie Potter (Shaun), Sara Miller (Kenneth), and Rebecca Loop (Matthew). Bill was also a proud grandfather to nine precious grandchildren: Ava, Kenneth, Isabelle, Caeden, Scarlett, Thaxton, Laine, Enzo, and Aurora. A true ladies’ man, Bill leaves behind his second and third ex-wives-turned-friends, Christine and Doreen. He was deeply loved by his many cousins, the Severs family, who stood by him until his final day on Earth. Never quite sure where to call home-having loved both-he split his years between New Jersey and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. He lived a life full of adventure, and his legendary storytelling will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace in his new home, driving the open roads of heaven in a 1953 Chevy pick-up truck. A graveside service, followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial, will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025. For details or timing, please contact Sara, Rebecca, or Billy Severs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centra Bedford Hospice House, in honor of the exceptional care Bill received in his final days.
