Bette Markham Piccolo, 79, was taken to her Heavenly home June 21, 2022. She was born on August 5, 1942 in Tampa, FL to her parents Keith Shearer Markham and Hester Jane Hill Markham. Bette worked as a Document Control Supervisor at Harris Corporation in Florida. She was responsible for sensitive material used on many Department of Defense projects at Harris. After marrying and moving to Forest, Virginia, she was a successful Real Estate agent doing what she loved best, helping her clients find the right home. Bette was married to Joe Piccolo for 31 years. She was a loving wife and mother. Bette was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing golf and was a longtime member of the Ivy Hill Ladies Golf League. She was an avid and rabid fan of Virginia Tech Football and loved spending game time at Lane Stadium. She also loved being with her family any chance she could – annual trips to Florida, hosting Thanksgiving in Virginia, and strived to never miss being part of her grandchildren’s celebrations, achievements, activities, sports, and dance events. Bette was passionate about her Catholic faith. As a loyal member of the Holy Name of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Bedford, VA she was involved in serving at Mass in various ways over the years. Bette is survived by her husband Joe of Forest; her brother Mark Markham (Mary) of Clearwater, FL, her sister Joan T. Jones (Paul) of Bozeman, MT; her sons Bill (Maryanne) McQuarrie of Melbourne, FL, David (Robin) McQuarrie of Melbourne, FL, Adam (Ashleigh) Karol of Forest, VA and Brian (Brianne) Piccolo of Wilmington, NC. Grandchildren Andrew (Savannah) McQuarrie of Hanover, VA; Bryan (Kelsey) McQuarrie of Palm Bay, FL; Jessica Conklin stationed in Bremerton, WA; Olivia Romer of Melbourne, FL; Emily Karol and Samuel Karol of Forest, VA. Great grandchildren Harper McQuarrie and Reagan McQuarrie of Hanover, VA. And her beloved dog, Coco. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August, 5, 2022 at Holy Name of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Bedford, VA. Reception will follow in McNally Hall at the Church, with interment following at 1:30 pm at Resurrection Catholic Church Cemetery in Moneta, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and the Lynchburg Humane Society.
