Barbara Ann Sazynski, 79, passed on peacefully in her Bedford home on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 surrounded by the loving warmth of many friends and family— and her three cats— who stayed faithfully at her bedside in her last hours. She is remembered first and foremost for her tremendous love of people and the deep, quiet Christian faith that inspired it. Her abundant kindness, generosity and compassion to strangers, animals and community members alike made her beloved by her staff and many customers at her estate liquidation company, H&S Estate Services and Appraisals. A merry entertainer and adventurous cook, she often chose to show her affection through food, frequently gifting friends and neighbors delicious homemade Polish meals. Barbara was also a well-known softie when it came to animals— adopting several strays, crippled and injured cats, whom she spoiled absolutely rotten over many years. She loved knitting and made many baby booties and hats for newborns. It will come as no surprise to anyone who attended Barbara’s estate sales that she enjoyed history and the stories behind antiques, taking a keen interest in how ceramics, furniture, handicrafts and haute couture clothing are made. She once read the entire Oxford History of the English Language in the Temple University library whilst her husband of many years, Paul, was studying for a PhD in physics. Her favorite designer was Coco Chanel, for her fashion innovations and respect for women, and Barbara enjoyed collecting and wearing costume jewelry, especially handmade art pieces. She passed on a great love of literature to her children, particularly the poetry of Longfellow and Robert Frost, and supported her daughter’s career choice as an artist and creative writer, as well as her son’s avid interests in business and mathematics. Her favorite fictional character was Agatha Christie’s detective Hercule Poirot and her favorite artists were Van Gogh, Andrew Wyeth and Vermeer. Barbara was born August 25, 1945 to William Edward Schloendorn, Jr. and Shirley M. Judson in West Point, NY and had one younger brother, William the third, now deceased. She was married to Paul Sazynski for 30 years until his death in 2003 and never remarried. They raised two children together, Gideon and Shirl, and Barbara doted on her young granddaughters. A resident of Bedford County since 1990, her legacy lives on through her son, daughter, and two grandchildren. She was a member of the Bedford North Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where her memorial service will be held, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 1534 Link Rd, Bedford on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Arrangements by Burch-Messier Funeral Home, Bedford, 540-586-7360.
