Rosemary Borck Goodwin of Smith Mountain Lake, VA, died peacefully in her sleep on July 22, 2019.  She was at home, surrounded by her family and her caregivers.  She was a beautiful, kind 96-year-old woman, devoted to her family, friends and faith. Rosemary moved to Smith Mountain Lake in 2010.  She enjoyed music, singing, dancing and being with people.  She especially loved going out to lunch every day and thanks to her companions, Norma Jean and Leroy, Tommy, Marilyn, Linda and Virginia, she was able to do just that.  You may have seen Rosemary around town in a pink outfit, always with a hat. Rosemary was born in Michigan, the eldest of three children.  As a lifelong learner, she went to junior college in Minnesota before moving to Alaska where she met her future husband, Ralph Goodwin, an Air Force officer.  She loved being an Air Force wife and meeting new people.  They settled in Annandale, VA where she completed her bachelor’s degree in sociology from George Mason University.  She later earned her master’s in education from Virginia Tech.  Rosemary and Ralph spent 55 wonderful years together and were active members of Annandale United Methodist Church. Rosemary is survived by two daughters, Nancy Goodwin Griffin (Tim) of Annandale, VA and Barbara Ann Boatwright (Rick) of Huddleston, VA; her beloved grandson, Daniel Clark Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, Robert, and her sister, Ruth. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, August 12, 2019, at Trinity Ecumenical Parish, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, VA 24121.  The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Ecumenical Parish with the note “Door of Hope” which is a girl’s school in Tanzania supported in part by Trinity.
