Marcia Linnette Hicks Healy, known to many as Linn, passed away peacefully at her home in Bedford on June 22 at the age of 79. Born in Huddleston, Virginia, she was the youngest of three daughters born to Thomas and Meda Hicks. The family moved to Bedford a few years after her birth. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1963 and then enrolled at James Madison University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Art. After meeting and marrying Hubert Healy she moved to Upper Marlboro, Maryland to start her own family, they had three children. From basketball at Bedford High and JMU to camping and fishing with her family, even coaching T-ball teams she stayed physically active most of her life. She also variously enjoyed bowling, racquetball and golf. Art continued to be a part of her life as well. From paintings to award winning homemade Halloween costumes, drawings and carvings to individualized handmade Christmas stockings for her children and others, she enjoyed and shared all kinds of art with her family and friends. Perhaps her most prolific and well- known efforts would be her work with flowers, which she loved. As a member of the alter guilds of both Trinity Episcopal in Upper Marlboro and St. John’s in Bedford, she designed and arranged literally hundreds of arrangements for church services, weddings, memorials and funerals. As a bridal consultant she helped dozens of brides find their perfect dress for their big day. Family members also got an artistic eye in helping to select everything from prom dresses to wedding gowns. Her style, creativity and love of family and friends will be sorely missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Meda Hicks; her husband and love of her life, Hubert Healy; her youngest son Nathan; and her oldest sister Stephanie “Sue” Kennedy.
